CINEMA, REALIZAÇÃO E EMOÇÃO —
O ROSTO DO ESPECTADOR COMO ELEMENTO DESCODIFICADOR NA NARRATIVA CINEMATOGRÁFICA

CINEMA, DIRECTING AND EMOTION —
THE FACE OF THE SPECTATOR AS DECODING ELEMENT OF CINEMATOGRAPHIC NARRATIVE

Carlos Coelho Costa

The movies have the ability of inducing and manipulating emotions in the spectators influencing their psychological state, for this reason, filmmakers need to use specific structures of mise-en-scène according to the plot of the film.
At the center of our reflection is, therefore, the question the correspondence, in a specific filmic genre, between the rules of creation and the emotional effects reflected on the facial expressions of the spectator.

OS CAMINHOS QUE SE BIFURCAM — QUATRO FILMES INTERATIVOS

THE BIFURCATING PATHS — FOUR INTERACTIVE FILMS

Bruno Mendes Silva

The Forking Paths, is a project, avaible in an online platform (oscaminhosquesebifurcam.ciac.pt)), dedicated to interactive film experiments. In addition to other experiments, the platform includes the films produced for the project: Valsa (20179, The Book of the Dead (2015) and Haze (2014). This communication presents the fourth film: Cadavre Exquis. This new interactive film will provide the viewer with the possibility of intervening in the film narrative in a disruptive way; and, finally, it will offer the viewer the potentialities of the homonymous surrealist game regarding the possibility of subverting the filmic discourse.

DÉCALAGE

Laetitia Morais

By manipulating videos in real time, improvising their narrative or subjecting them to other collaborations, exceptional conditions arise which allow instantaneous results, undone and uninhibited, since they are not assigned to a methodology of their own. The gesture is contemplated, while guarding the forms and the movement from all that is passage and transition. This application of a non-model, or let’s say, an open model, is in itself a political thought: it is a continuous argument about the effectiveness of actions, extending the process to the viewer. In the same way, collaborations in artistic work generates new contents, but also failures and unpredictability. This will be the starting point for an equally open conversation on the subject.

SOBREVIVÊNCIA ECHOLÓGICA

ECHOLOGICAL SURVIVAL

‘Echological Survival’ was taken from a (perhaps mis)quote by Álvaro Lapa of Gary Snyder, North American poet and environmentalist; where the extra ‘h’ simultaneously contracts and expands ‘eco-’, from the greek oikos = house, and ‘echo’, ēchos = sound. This (poetic) deviation in which ecology and echoing become one dual movement, allow us to rethink acoustic phenomena such as reverberation and resonance as environmental and social processes. This listening and conversation session will speculate on how such a movement can be an operative tool to situate ourselves – and our environment – in relations of reciprocity and cooperation.

THE DREAM IS THE DREAMER —
METODOLOGIA ESPECULATIVA

SPECULATIVE METHODOLOGY

Catarina Miranda
